XML Tutorial

         Alhamdullilah, we are fortunate to meet once again. As what we had promised earlier, this is the tutorial about XML. Hope you enjoy reading and hopefully you will find something useful in this post :D

XML

• Stands for Extensible Markup Language
• Not replacement for HTML as they were designed with different goals
• Created to structure,store, and transport the information
• Just a plain text. Any software that can handle plain text can also handle XML
• XML languages has no predefined tags
• Works as a compliment to HTML not as replacement
• The description for XML is software- and hardware-independent tool for carrying information 

XML Simplifies Data Sharing

• XML data can easily be exchanged between incompatible systems
• XML data reduce a lot of time for exchanging data between incompatible systems over the internet

XML Simplifies Platform Changes

• As XML data is stored in text format it makes it easier to expand or upgrade to the new operating system,new applications or new browsers without losing data

XML Makes Data More Available

• Since XML is independent of hardware ,software and applications,XML can make our data more available and useful.
• Our data can be access from different applications and available to all kinds of 'reading machines (i.e: hands (i.e: hands helds computer, voice machines and others. It make a more available for  people with disabilities.)

Well formed XML Document

• A "well formed" XML document has correct XML syntax
• The syntax rules are :

XML Syntax Rules	Explanation
XML document must have a root elements	XML document must contain one element that is the parent of all elements The elements is called root elements
XML elements must have closing tags	In XML it is illegal to omit the closing tag. All elements must have closing tag: <p>……………..</p>
XML tags are case sensitive	XML elements defined using XML text With XML, the text <Letter> is different from the tag <letter>
XML element must be properly nested	In XML all elements must be properly nested within each other: <b> <i>………………………</i> ,</b>
XML attribute values must be quoted	In XML the attribute value must always be quoted “quoted”
